Cell phone Numbers

Everyone has a several “adresses”, which help to find us among a freat diversity of people all over the world. For example, a phone number – several numbers in a strict sequence, which differ one user from others. When phones just appeared the numbers were really short and allow to communicate just with your neighbors. Now the phone system has become huge and international, thats why cellular numbers have become longer and more complex in comparison with the first one. By the way, cell phone numbers is often used for another devices, like fax machines or computers.

The number is a sequence of numbers to identify endpoint, which is unique, thats why many countries use the complex system of numbering. Each local telephone network gives a short (as short, as it is possible) to endpoints, but every network (or region) has an own special code, which is used to communicate between cities and regions. Many countries fix a “special” short number for emergency services like 911, and telephone networks provide some short fixed numbers for companies for “hot-lines” and support services. Usually number of endpoint consists of the area code, region code and personal sequence of numbers. Now many systems support calls within a local place without dialing the local code.

As for mobile phones, they usually interconnected in the international phone network, what require to dial country code, area code and personal number. This format is recommended by ITU-T in a special E.164. This rule define the number as a sequence of 15 or less digits with the country prefix before. The following may include the area code and personal number or just number. ITU-T recommendation E.123 says that every international mobile phone number must start with the plus sign (“+”) an the number of your country. If you call from a fixed line the sign must be replaced by the special full code, defined by the country, you call from. All mobile phones allow to dial plus sign directly.

Every local phone has a national or regional format and allocation, which are defined and controlled by special govermental or sponsored organizations. For example, NANPA is overseen by NeuStar Inc. You have to know and dial up the number of some person to communicate with hin or her. Before answering the system identify your number. It means that, you need a called party equipment like personal ID in this system.
